Background/Summary
The Youths Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (YESAP) is an entrepreneurial skills development intervention programme of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) for her host communities: Eleme and Okrika respectively. PHRC through YESAP aims to train sixty (60) youths: thirty six (36) youths from Eleme and twenty four (24) youths from Okrika on different vocations ranging from fashion design, wielding and fabrication, ICT/computer engineering, carpentry to masonry and interlocking moulding, hairdressing and catering as a way of curbing unemployment and youths’ restiveness. The number of youths to be trained from each community is in line with the laid down PHRC sharing formula.

The initiative is intended to provide the youths with sustainable means of livelihood, through the application of specialised skills and small scale enterprise development. The training is a deliberate effort by the PHRC to engage the youths in meaningful ventures as part of its corporate social responsibility. The main objective of the programme is to increase the employability of Eleme and Okrika youths through entrepreneurial skills development, hence promoting self-reliance and income security.
To realise this objective, Accord for Community Development and Kantas International Limited were engaged by PHRC to independently facilitate the training of 30 youths in Eleme and Okrika Local Government Areas as well as provide other value services. In line with its mandates, Accord for Community Development facilitated the selection of qualified youths from the host communities in both Local Government Areas in an all-embracing
